It took 10 hours of support calls between Apple and LG before an LG tech finally admitted that it was a known fault, and they intended to patch it "hopefully within a month." That sucker got packed up and shipped back.ĭon't count on LG to support their products. I just returned another monitor from them (the 49" 5K) because it didn't work. You can't even turn the sound up above 3 notches, or else it will blow you you. No customization, no color control, no sound control. The ambient light sensor was never turned on, for instance.įinally, this app just doesn't DO anything. Numerous features that were originally advertised never came to fruition. 065-C2ND 2.8GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i5 (Turbo Boost up to 3.3GHz) 065-C2NQ 512GB PCIe-based Flash Storage. It wasn't perfect, but it could save time in certain situations. It used to have a feature to divy up windows across your screen. I guess we now know why Apple is back to making their old displays.įirst, LG has gutted this app. I was an early buyer of the LG UltraFine 5K, and I'm amazed at how little LG has done since the release. Then when 5K displays arrived (5120x2880), this sort of happened again, but with an improvement. Some displays even allowed you to toggle between these modes to provide compatibility when needed (MST) and convenience when supported (SST). Nope! This has been disabled since the product was released. Later on 4K SST displays arrived, which presented as a normal 3840x2160 display. Another, big thanks for nothing to a company that had no intention of fully supporting these products.īTW, I guess LG is never going to enable the Ambient Light Sensor which they advertised it supported automatically adjusting brightness to room light conditions.
The second problem is that, even though the app never checks a valid URL for a firmware update, the app has now been coded by the developers to always create a directory whenever you open the app or have it check for an update. LGs UltraFine 4K Display (24MD4KL-B) is a pin-sharp, if pricey, pick as a Mac-friendly monitor, designed to pair with an Apple desktop or laptop equipped with Thunderbolt 3. Thanks, LG for crippling the product even more since you've advertised this to be specifically developed to be fully compatible with Mac computers. The new problems with this app is that LG removed the Split Screen feature in the app. Not that it would matter, because customer support isn't even aware of what the existing version is and that at least two firmware updates have been released since the debut of the monitor. LG is fond of unveiling monitors before CES, but its newest batch may be particularly interesting if you value every inch of free space on your desk. The app doesn't really check for a new version against any database to verify your currently installed version versus what they have available for the monitor.
#Lg 4k monitor mac compatible update
First off, let me point out that the previous failure to actually check for a firmware update which was accessing a broken/closed URL is still present in 2.31.
